A tragedy that inspired positive change

How hold hands was born

Dear Friend,

My name is Amanda Cambridge. I am the mother of a beautiful boy we named Avery James Greene. Avery was a blonde blue eyed  boy full of the joys of life. He loved everything a 3 year old boy would love, his cars, his bikes and water.

Avery was due to start pre-school in September 2019. He was also due to start swimming lessons that September.

Our world was turned up side down on the 12th of August 2019, when while on holidays in Spain, Avery lost his life in a swimming pool accident. He was 3 years old.

Our most precious gift lost his life  doing what he loved most.

Reading, writing and the gift of learning; they’re the most precious gifts we can give to our children. That’s why we have become advocates for early learning water safety in pre-schools; for the life lesson of water safety and swimming that can be passed down from parents to children and future generations.

Avery is gone but never forgotten, his life was cut short but his memory remains.

Water Safety Ireland’s ‘Hold Hands’ programme is life saving and life changing. Please embrace it in your pre-school and help give children, the knowledge they need to stay safe  around water.

By doing so, you will help families to have great water experiences. More importantly, you’ll be helping them to return home safely as a family.

Yours sincerely,

Amanda Cambridge
